I've been struggling. Since my teens, that is. 'Yoyo' is my second name and I don't quite like it. I love food and I hate it at the same time. I'm constantly torn between f*cking loving myself for the way I am and craving the perfect bikini bodies you see in magazines and on tv. I'm quite much like 91% women walking around on this planet; stuck with a poor body image.
When it comes to food (and exercise), it always used to be black or white; strict dieting or living the life of a Burgundian. It didn't exactly help family members pointing out I was 'chubby' and urging me to slim down. (do not - i repeat - do not do that. It only makes the problem worse) I don't enjoy any sports, I'm a creative person at heart and if I could I'd like to do just that, n'est pas?
But I don't feel 'content' right now. I've tried many diets and failed miserably... time and time again. My trousers are annoyingly tight and I feel completely out of shape. I don't want to feel this way, but I don't want to go that road again - slimming down like a maniac, restricting restricting restricting and gaining it all back. I'm finally ready to try something new to feel healthy and lasting this time around: BALANCE. Quoi?
◆ Yes, I can have that cocktail if I really want to, but I won't have that chocolate when I feel my body's had enough.
◆ I will go for walks, runs or anything else active... not 5-6 times a week until I get sick and tired of it, but let's start with just a 2 times a week, trying to figure out which sports I at least don't hate.
◆ I promise, I won't take the elevator at work and walk home when the weather allows me to.
◆ I will cook and meal prep like I never did before. This is an important one, I tend to get lazy in this department when life gets busy.
◆ I will write down whatever I'm eating, just to get myself on track again and to be aware of whatever I put in my mouth. I kind of tend to 'forget', how convenient!
◆ When I don't really want it, I won't eat it just to be polite. Say NO, because you're worth it!
◆ I'll make it fun, try something new and switch things up... living happy and healthy should be a feast, not a battle!
◆ Focus on how I feel, instead of the number on the scale. Let's just dump the scale all together!
It's time to love ourselves more, be active, make healthy decisions & aim for a better self -instead of beings so hard on ourselves and chasing perfection, which simply doesn't exist.
Do you have any tricks on how to find balance health-wise?
